I think the vast majority of people who watched the first season of AMC’s The Walking Dead were blown away by the first two episodes and then disappointed by the remainder.

Tremendously realistic gore on the small screen wasn’t enough, it seems, to paper over painfully cliched dialogue and semi-major plot holes.

If you’re familiar with the source material — Robert Kirkman’s comic book series — you might hold out hope that the next season, which will feature an all-new writing team, could improve vastly. The trailer for the second season, released at the end of last week, fuels that hope.

I’m not totally won over here — the end of last season has left me scarred still — but of course I will be watching when The Walking Dead returns in October.
