Underappreciated Animals is an ongoing series where I will delve deep into the recesses of the internet to find animals, who due to their obscurity or rarity, have not been fully appreciated for the level of cuteness they bring to the table.


 

When one thinks of rodents, cute is probably not the first word that comes to mind. However Pikas, who live mainly on craggy mountainsides, certainly fall into the category along with baby rabbits, chinchillas and a select group of hamsters (just to name a few). Pikas are industrious animals who, unlike some other lazy mammals (we’re looking at you bears), don’t even need to hibernate to stay cuter than a button.

These little guys live in both North America and Eurasia because they survived, pretty easily, through the last ice age. Take that Mammoths!
