Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the best known method actor in the world. He completely transforms himself for the few roles he actually elects to take on, so it should be no surprise that he’s getting all 16th President for his next part, as Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielbierg’s 2012 biopic titled Lincoln.
Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, though, so let me show you instead of telling you.
Yes, that is Day-Lewis, spotted at a Richmond, Va. restaurant in close proximity to where Lincoln is filming.
As The Film Stage points out, the look isn’t the only thing ultra-Lincoln-y about Day-Lewis at the moment.
He certainly seems to have nailed the look. Variety‘s Jeff Sneider recently revealed that Day-Lewis “hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March” and his “real name doesn’t even appear on the call sheet.” I’ve heard from other sources that it is indeed the high-pitched tone Lincoln is infamous for.
Lincoln is based off of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s bestseller Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln and is set to be released in late 2012. I, for one, can’t wait.
